Programme description
The BA in English and Chinese Studies is a major conducted at the Faculty of English in cooperation with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Faculty of Modern Languages and Literatures at AMU. The English and Chinese Studies programme offers students the opportunity to learn the language and literature as well as elements of history and culture of the United Kingdom or the United States (as selected by the student) and of China, as well as obtain a C1 level of proficiency in English and a B1 level in Chinese, in speech and writing. English and Chinese are languages of global importance and coverage. Knowing both languages and having an appropriate level of knowledge on English-speaking countries and China, our graduates have the chance to be in a particularly favourable situation in the job market. The studies in our major will equip them with the competences expected of candidates for employees of, among others, international companies as well as institutions concerned with international cooperation between European countries and China.

- The Polish learning path: with the courses in the Chinese studies part of the programme conducted in Polish, and the courses in the English studies part conducted in English (admission every year)

Graduate competencies

The graduate from the English and Chinese Studies programme:
- can use English at least at the C1 level and Chinese at least at the B1 level, according to the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- knows and understands the concepts and issues concerning research in linguistics and in literature, also in the relevant cultural context, from the cultural areas of English and Chinese;
- can independently, analytically and critically interpret linguistic and literary texts, also in the relevant cultural context;
- knows and understands the functioning of English and Chinese languages and literatures in cultural institutions and in the contemporary cultural life;
- is ready to keep updated on the current cultural and civilizational trends in the cultural areas of English and Chinese, using various media for this purpose;
- shows openness and tolerance towards other cultures.
